Samsung ML-1430 Laser Printer Reviews

Summary: Don't know what ppl are complaining about - 5+ yrs and still going strong
Comment: I don't know why ppl are having such issues w/ their printers. I've had mine for at least 5 yrs and, other than a few very isolated times that the drivers got out of whack, I've had absolutely no issues with my 1430 at all and have shipped it around all over the place w/ each move. I even have the original/stock printer cartridge in and it's still printing perfectly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 full stars was that, as other reviews have pointed out, it only does an "ok" job w/ images. But then again, if I wanted imaging, I would have gotten a color printer. This has been one of the best electronics investments I've ever made.

Summary: Rock Solid
Comment: I've owned this printer for years. It has been a rock solid, dependable printer. Not the best quality, but it just keeps running.

Summary: ML1430 print drivers for mac os 10.5 Leopard
Comment: I have had this printer for several years and like the other reviewers I have had no problems. I have been running it on my network with Windows XP and Mac OS 10.4. I just upgraded to Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) and found out there are no drivers for this version of Mac OS. The driver for 10.4 does not work with the 10.5 version and I have not been able to find a driver that will.

Summary: Feeder problem is correctible.
Comment: I was in the process of looking for a replacement for my Samsung ML-1430 because of feeder problems. Fortunately I decided to google for feeder problems and found the directions at the Amazon site. AMAZING AND AWESOME!!! INTERNET IS WONDERFUL. The directions worked - THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE - although I couldn't get the sides of the printer off, only the back. So I used a tooth brush to reach in to lightly scrub the 2" wide roller from the back and front - I used detergent, but I don't think you really need to. Water would work fine because the buildup is not very thick. The roller appears to have slightly elevated ripples in it for traction, and when the buildup fills between the ripples, traction is lost. I put the machine together, and printed a 20 page document with absolutely no hesitation for paper feeding. Voila, the printer appears to be as good as new. I'm delighted, because it is an awesome machine. The feeder problem, is the only problem I've had with it - and I've used it a lot for the last 5 years - I'm a researcher, and print all my research papers, articles from pubmed etc. on it - using the double-sided feature where you first print all the even pages in reverse, then the odd pages in the right direction. Works like a charm, saves paper, and doesn't get all jammed up like the more expensive printers at work. I have no hesitation in recommending this superb little machine, provided you are willing to clean the feeder roller every five years or so. It is probably the best buy available....

Summary: Remedying the Printer Feeder
Comment: This printer has worked admirably for the nearly five years I have had it, but recently it has been suffering from feeding problems. I would occasionally just reinsert the paper until it would feed, but it has stopped working with this approach.
Since I recently got a new toner cartridge, I was not about to get rid of the printer yet! The sides and back easily come off to give better access to the rubber feeder. I noticed that part of it, presumably where it feeds, was all glazed and dry with particulate rubber dust.
I used dish detergent to thoroughly clean the rubber feeder, especially the glazed part. With that, I can feel the traction again and the printer works admirably once again.
