Summary: A good flexible color laser printer, but tricky to use
Comment: UPDATE: I would downgrade this to three stars because I am having problems getting computers to print to the 2550DN over the network. I've been using it intermittently, and am having connection problems. What fixes the problem in one instance doesn't always work the next time. We are using business grade managed network switches.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Professional-looking output and improved speed over ink-jet is the reason to get this. Makes good color laser prints. Works as advertised. Not real fast, but you can print nice duplex color newsletters and sales sheets from any computer over the network. While printing, the printer is too loud if you want talk on the phone next to the printer. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because of the noise, and because documentation is not clear.

For example, I had a problem installing the duplexing unit on the back, but I finally got it, even though the instructions are not clear. Then a week after I installed the drivers on my computer with no problem, I had trouble getting my computer to find the printer over the network. The documentation was no help, but I figured out on my own to find the printer name in "view network computers" and then opened the Windows printer properties PORT tab and CONFIGURED the port with the correct printer name. Then it worked fine. It works over the network as I expected. I'm an intermediate level at networking and expected minor tweaking to be necessary. I just wish the documentation was better.

Bought this after our Magicolor 2400W died out of warranty. This printer uses the same spare cartridges, which we had in inventory. Have owned it for a month. Did not compare this to other laser printers.

Summary: Two Printers Too Many
Comment: My Magicolor 2430DL had worked well enough until a terrible jam removed some crucial pieces, so when Konica Minolta released this new printer, featuring the same compact size but with a much higher print resolution, I thought I would give it a try.

Maybe it's because this product is too new and hasn't had the bugs worked out of it yet, but I have to warn people that my experience so far is not good. When my first 2550 arrived, I set it up per the instructions, printed one test page and was ready to go. But on my first attempt at printing a plain paper page of text, I received a jam and error: "Service Call 14". I spent a lot of time with Customer Support, and they finally determined that it was a mechanical error and sent me a new printer. It took three days to arrive.

Hooked up the replacement printer, test pages worked fine, used all manner of materials to test: plain paper, vellum, transparency, laser label stock--worked great for the first 10 or so pages. Then, suddenly, we received the dreaded SERVICE CALL 14 error again. What happens is the paper is pulled only partially through the bottom roller, and then the printer locks up and gives the error. The paper's not even reaching the ribbon yet. Another long call with customer support and a tech tries to imply that this error is caused by the printer not being plugged DIRECTLY into the wall, as opposed to plugged into our surge protected power strip. A strange claim, but we did plug the printer directly into the wall. Printed a few pages, plain paper mind you and then: SERVICE CALL 14.

On the few pages that did successfully make their way through the printer, the quality was beautiful. It took some tweaking to make colors turn out right (they tend to be muddy and dark on automatic settings), but the graphics are top notch. The problem is not the quality of the print, but the printer itself.

I am not looking forward to another lengthy phone call to customer support, and I am utterly disappointed by this printer. If it would just actually work, I would be elated. But it doesn't. I think I am done with Konica Minolta printers for a while. The print quality is hard to beat for the price, but the actual printers are cheap and not reliable.
