Konica Minolta magicolor 2300W Color Laser Printer Reviews

Summary: This was a big mistake
Comment:
It is bit late to write a review of this crappy printer. Like other reviewers i have had the "send the print three times" problem, i have also had to change toner and the drum units twice in its lifetime. Its total prints so far in its entire 2.5 years we have owned this is 12,000 copies. It is rated at 35,000 per month. We have barely used this thing and it is dead. Lousy driver, gobbles toner, glitchy print connection and now it is starting to squeal and will not print in color. I am throwing it out this week. It is an expensive mistake.

Summary: Ok for every day printing; Slower than many
Comment: I have bought this laser printer about a 1 and 1/2 years ago because I was tired of inkjets and wanted to have more reliable printing with laser printers. From what I know, this laser printer is a lot slower than Xerox laser printers, which I considered buying but they are generally too expensive for personal use.
Pros:
1. Obviously superior to inkjets. Cartridge last a LOT longer.
Not that many pros. It has the features you would find in a normal laser printer.
Cons:
1. Bulky
2. Noisy while printing
3. Power hungry; laser printer require a lot more energy to warm up
4. Faulty cord design cause annoyance (Jamming): IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER:
This printer's power cord connects separately; and there's nothing to secure it in place when you plug it into the printer. Thus, if you accidentally step on the cord it is very likely to pull off; sometimes the power would even go out if you accidentally kick the cord (when it's not even pulled off)! Once I was printing something and stepped on the cord, and the whole thing shut off, resulting in a paper jam. This is the biggest design fault, and a warning for those that want to buy a laser printer; jamming requires opening the cover and pulling the paper out, which decrease productivity and waste anyone's time.
5. takes 1 minute to warm up, 2 to 3 times more than some laser printers. Perhaps that's why it's a "personal laser printer"
It is an ok laser printer and I like it for the ability to print color for something less than $300. If you print black and white mostly, look for those black-and-white only laser printers that are for less than $60 when on sale. Those will serve you better than this bulky mass.

Summary: KONICA MINOLTA MAGICOLOR 2300W
Comment: My experience has been absolutely identical to 'Upset User'. I too bought the printer 1 and ½ years ago and it worked perfectly until a couple of months ago when it began to require 3 print requests before anything would appear...and even then after a considerable wait!
It is also important to note that when printing documents, and especially labels, the drum often leaves a 'shadow' of what it has already printed. In the worst cases I have ruined dozens of documents in a large print run.
Note also the high cost of toner. It costs more to replace all the toner cartridges once than to buy a new printer with new colour cartridges...work that out! Seems a shame to have to dump my printer soon, but that's how it goes. Certainly not very environmentally friendly!
Having said all of this the image quality is superb. If you can put up with the above then it's worth considering one of these or its replacement model.
Provided that after independent testing, the printer is assessed to provide prints of good quality I, however, shall be making the cost of toner the priority when making my next choice!

Summary: It takes 3 times to print anything.
Comment: I bought it 1 and 1/2 year ago. It works OK until about one month ago. When I send a job to print for the first time, the printer makes noise like it would work but nothing comes out. When I send the point job for the second time, nothing happens. When I send the job for the third time, I got what I wanted to print. I have no clue what is happenning!

Summary: It does work with print servers.
Comment: I purchased this with hesitation after reading mixed reviews about its compatibility with print servers. I hooked it up to a Linksys PSUS4 and it worked flawlessly out of the box, no changes required. Output quality is excellent, and print speed is good after it warms up. Recommended.
