Summary: Good quality, good deal
Comment: I was originally planning to get a much more expensive laser printer for my home office, but I decided to give this one a try due to the price tag. So far, I don't regret the purchase. It's well-designed for home use--the small footprint, closable paper trays (keeps the office looking less cluttered when the printer's not being used), decent print speed and crisp print quality are impressive. If you're on Windows XP, the Minolta Web site provides a driver. It took a couple of installs to get the printer working, but no big deal.

Summary: Best Laser-Printer for your money!
Comment: This printer just works great. The price is unbeatable; the quality of the prints is perfect.
You can go on to look for a better deal on laser printers: You won't find one. [I really don't understand, why they don't offer this great machine in most stores...]
After I bought one for myself, two of my friends got the 1100l, too. Any questions?
PS: It's true; Minolta doesn't deliver the 2000/XP driver on CD. But you can simply download it from their website.

Summary: Not for Networks
Comment: This printer has become the bane of my existence. It works quite well for single PC's, but attaching it to a network is not recommended.
First, all the OS's on the network must be the same (Win9x, 2K, etc...), then, it will only print basic formats, Word, Word Perfect, and most image formats. MS Publisher, Access, Adobe(anything but Photoshop), PDF, and any other "publishing style documents" won't print.
You can print them from the print server, just not the client machines.
Also, save yourself some grief, and avoid printing envelopes.
And, if the power goes out, you must reinstall the printer drivers. If you don't, the printer will tell you the "printer cover is open, cancel all jobs".
The only way to avoid this message is to reinstall the drivers.

It seems I'm not the only one to notice these issues. Recently while talking to technical support (not Minolta) regarding a problem printing postage stamps, the CSR stated that they have many problems with this printer, and were surprised that I was able to network it all.

If you plan to attach this to a single PC, I recommend this printer, when it prints, the quality is great. If you want a networked printer, this isn't for you.

Summary: A Good Printer- if you can get it to install
Comment: I bought two of these for my small business office. One installed and works fine, but I couldn't get the installation software to run at all on the other machine (a relatively new Dell). Apparently there is a problem with the GDI Interface and if you have other printer drivers installed, the software is very picky about the order these drivers are loaded. The Minolta tech support people said that deleting my other printer drivers and reloading them after I install the Minolta driver might work, but they would investigate the problem and call me back. Ten days later- they haven't. Tells you something about their customer support I guess. Rather than delete and reinstall four other printers (which may not have solved the problem), I chose to send this one back.

My advice is that this printer is just not worth the trouble, unless you are using it as you only, stand alone printer.

Summary: The easiest to install printer.
Comment: I run win98 on my computer. This printer was one of the few peripherals which installed and ran so smoothly right out of the box. My previous printer was an inkjet and was a pain to install the first time around (kept conflicting with the previously installed scanner and would not run even when I removed all traces of that scanner from my computer).
The printouts are sharp and clean and come out really fast. I love the ability to print multiple pages on the same sheet and even do manual duplex printing (the printer takes care of order of pages while printing duplex with multiple pages on each side). During the past few months of using this printer, I encountered paper jam only twice (both times my mistake, once tried to pull a paper back while it had already started moving inside for printing and at other time the stack of papers on the input tray was badly sticking together). Both times clearing the jam was a breeze. I received the rebate check in about a month which was fast as compared to most of other rebates.
The only negatives about this printer are, one, the memory cannot be expanded (not that I need more) and two, the optional high capacity second paper input tray is outrageously expensive.
