Summary: Poor paper feed
Comment: i am disappointed in this printer for the way it handles feeding the paper. It jams, or puts through many blank pages, or refuses to work at all if the paper tray has too much (seemingly a normal amount) of paper in it.
My husband worked as a printer technician for Hewlett Packard, but even he can't get it to improve its performance. Every time I try to use it, I have to call him to get it to work at all, and even then the pages are not printed well (half a page on one sheet of paper, the other part on a different sheet, for example.)
When I was asked by email to rate this printer, I hadn't yet used it so was not able to express these faults. I haven't saved the packing materials with which to return it. I can't afford to buy a better one.

Summary: Great for small personal office
Comment: A very good printer that takes little space. At $49 I thought it was good way to get started in color printing, since I'd been using a B&W lasterjet for so many years. My husband is so impressed that he told me I could upgrade to another printer and he's take the HP 3745 for his own office. I was able to buy the USB cable at the store I bought the printer.

Summary: Mechanically sound, but installation software a problem
Comment: First, for a low-end printer, the HP 3745 is pretty good, once you get it working. It is fairly quiet, and prints with little streaking. It is a bit slow, but high speed is not something I was expecting from a low priced printer.
I did have considerable problems with the installation software. I am far from computer illiterate, but had a lot of trouble getting the printer to work with my system. I finally discovered that the driver the Install Wizard was picking was the wrong one. Once I manually picked the driver, everything ran smoothly.
If you buy this printer, my advice is to be ready to go to hp.com and look at the support page for this printer. Alternatively, use the Help line given in the manual if you have problems with the software installation.

Summary: Surprisingly good to be so cheap.
Comment: I'll be honest. I'm not a fan of HP. I worked in the IT field for a number of years, and they always caused me headaches. I bought this printer solely because it was cheap.
I guess I owe HP an apology now, because this little printer has been nearly perfect for me. The print speed and quality are very good for the price, and it's very compact. Unlike other printers that load the paper from a vertical tray in the back, this little DeskJet loads from the front, so the paper stays flat, and won't curl up or jam.
Admittedly, I don't print in large volume, so those who do will likely be better off with a laser printer, or a more ruggedly-built printer. I mainly need something to print ordinary text documents, emails, etc. from time to time. For that, this printer has been very good indeed.

Summary: Bad printer
Comment: I could never get this thing to work. It has only printed a couple of pages the whole time i have owned it. Dont buy this unless you want a paper weight
