Summary: Epson admitted it was defective, offers refurbished replacement!
Comment: This printer malfunctioned from the moment I turned it on-- I couldn't go past step 3 of the set-up. I called Epson who confirmed it was a hardware malfunction (which they blamed on delivery-- although the box was in pristine condition). SO, they offered to send a replacement out immediately, but having read other reviews I knew to ask if it would be a new printer and I was told "We can't guarentee you won't received a refurbished printer." WHAT?! I bought a BRAND NEW printer that you admitted was defective and I get a used replacement!?! WARNING: If you want to risk not getting a lemon, I suggest you buy it from Amazon where you can actually return it. If you buy it from Epson, they will not return it but replace it with a used one! If you buy it from an electronics store (like Circuit City) they will return it but charge a 15% re-stocking fee. BEWARE of Epson... when they work, they are great, but when they don't, you're out-of-luck.

Comment: Super easy to set up, even for an intermediate user like myself. Setup took 15 minutes, including setting up profiles for the paper. Very fine smooth tones, perfectly saturated but not overly so.

Summary: SUPER!
Comment: A super printer which works well for printing promotional pieces and portfolio pages. I would recommend this printer for the serious amatuer photographer.

Summary: Large format Printer
Comment: This Epson Stylus Photo R1800 printer prints fast and very good. It was expensive but you can install a "continuous ink system" on it. All togather this cost me less than $500 and now I can print 13 X 19 photos and never have to replace those 8 ink cartridges.

Summary: Excellent photo printer
Comment: The R1800 is my first real photo printer. I could not be more pleased with the ease of set-up and the quality of prints. I am using Photoshop Elements 5.0 or Adobe Lightroom to manage all of the print settings and color profiles to produce some great prints. I have used the printer color profile settings to print some test samples and it does a very good job. I prefer to use the downloaded paper profiles from Epson for the best quality prints. Just remember to turn off the printer as the color manager.
Negative: The output tray sometimes hangs up and will not extend as described. I have to reach under the printer to release it.
The R1800 is a great value for those not needing to print larger then 13" prints.
