Summary: VERY HAPPY, GREAT prints!!
Comment: I recently bought this printer and sell a lot of prints. In my opion, this printer is great. I did read the other reviews on this printer including ones that stated they had problems with ink consumption and problems feeding paper. I have had NO problems with feeding paper, and trust me, I PRINT A TON of photos!!! I use all sizes sheet paper, roll paper, print CD's, and art papers. NOT ONE FEED problem!! As far as the ink problem, you may have this if you are always shuting off the power to the printer each time you use it. I never shut of my printer (I do keep it on a VERY Good surge protecter, just like you should do on any high price electronics) it wont hurt it, just leave it on. This way the printer will not do a head cleaning each time you turn it on and use up ink. As far as using up alot of ink printing, I dont see it!! Like I said , I print a TON of LARGE photos and my ink comsumtion in my opion is small compared to the amount of prints I do. I DO recommend this printer for photos ITS GREAT! If you are looking for a printer to do a lot of text and maybe a few photos now and then, you sould look at less expensive printers, you dont need this one it primary funtion is high gloss color photos.

Summary: Not as satisfied as the others
Comment: I was so disappointed after purchasing this printer. Many had raved about it. I had trouble with it from day 1 and found epson to not be very helpful. I should have returned it within the 30 days. But, it seemed if I kept at it, it would get better. I have lots of trouble printing from InDesign. I get nothing bit media errors, even though I can print from other programs. I have to make a PDF file every-time and then print from acrobat. The inks seems to use up too quickly too and the other day I couldn't even turn it off. I had to unplug it as the on/off button wouldn't work. Needless to say, I have not been happy with this printer. That is not to say it is a bad printer, as so many others have had no trouble and love it..I think I got a lemon and I was hoping a company like epson would have done better by me. I guess that is the last time I buy an epson printer. Which is a shame, cause I have purchased so many epson products in the past.

Summary: Great printer with a few big flaws.
Comment: I want to give my R1800 a 5 star review because when it prints properly, it creates prints that are as good or better than anything I can have seen through a photo printing service. It really is quite amazing. The problem is that it doesn't always print properly. In fact, I have a problem with output about 50% of the time when I print in very high resolutions. I often get prints that have severe color calibration issues on anything I print with Photoshop - which means almost everything I print. My monitor is calibrated correctly and I get perfect calibration using other printers (which I do because of the second issue I have that I will mention momentarily), but there is something afoot with color profiles using Photoshop and the R1800.

I know there are fixes on the web, but when I pay over $500 for a printer, I shouldn't have to google like a mad person trying to make my printer work properly with number one imaging software in the world. Shame on Epson for not creating a fix by now.

Two other complaints include the oft cited ink issue. Ink is expensive and this printer eats it for breakfast. I do use two other printers for anything out of creating photographic prints because of this. The second complaint involves CD printing - something I have never been able to get to work. It's not a big deal, I didn't buy it for CD printing, but it is annoying that the printer is so problematic in regards to it.

I don't regret buying the R1800 because the print quality really is exceptional when it is working properly. I am just very disappointed with Epson for not fixing the color calibration issue. I will rethink buying another Epson product next time for this reason.
