Summary: This is great!
Comment: This is a medium format printer for those of us who are still running Win98. For cost reasons alone ($80 to refill my very thirsty HP-1120C) I retired that old printer, and the Epson 1280 is a great replacement. Only one black ink type, but the colors humbled my Epson C-80 (which I thought was outstanding, btw), so that puppy's history too. (...)
A small note here: the first one (1280) sent to me was damaged in shipping. Amazon had a replacement here in two days! At no cost to me! If it gets better than that, you gotta show me.

Summary: Epson 1280 printer
Comment: Wonderful product... Great value for the money. I love Epson products... I own another printer and a scanner by Epson. I purchased this product specifically to be able to print oversize paper - and because it was recommended by my best friend who's owned one for about 3 years. She uses it in her business and calls it her "work horse".

Summary: Excellent choice - if I say so myself
Comment: Of course, I'd done lots of research, and got recommendations, etc. and I did have 1270 (which we'd had 7 years and was no longer giving good color.) This is an excellent printer. It does everything I need. I'm a photographer (hobby) and it gives me beautiful prints. Enjoy the borderless feature, which I didn't have before.

Summary: Great for Picture Quilts
Comment: I have been using this printer for over 3 years now and I am still impressed with its speed and resolution. I must admit that for photographs, it does not compare with some of the new HP printers. I just purchased an HP Photosmart 8150 for $149 and was amazed with how clear and crisp my photos came out.
However, I make picture quilts and EPSON's claim that their ink becomes water resistant after normal use is good. I have made quilts where it went through hand washing and the photos still kept their color. This was not the case when I used other printer inks.
I am still amazed at the price after so many years. I purchased my printer Christmas 2001 for $550. I would have thought by this time, the price would have gone down a bit more.

Summary: Good but not great
Comment: When this printer was introduced about 3 years ago it was clearly the best printer in its class. The prints looked nearly as good as lab prints, and the large format and built-in roll feeder gave options available nowhere else. But compared the best of today (Canon), the Epson 1280 comes up short in print quality and cost of operation.
Many people seem to complain about the multiple color ink cartridge, and blame that for the high ink consumption. I can say this is not true. Producing and marketing a three ink cartridge is no where near as costly as 3 times single-color cartridges. But Epson printers DO consume lots of expensive ink.
Besides the cost, I have two complaints: 1) prints invariably have a reddish hue (even though I am using Photoshop with native color profiles), and 2) the management of the roll feeder is clumsy invariably wasting expensive paper.
