Summary: Great, but not perfect
Comment: This printer works great, but the only problem is, when I took it out of the box and untaped everything, I found that one of the hinges was broken on the hood of it. I expected to buy this product as NEW and was not expecting this.

Summary: Great Investment
Comment: My puposes for the larger format is for engineering drawings. I had an Epson 1270 (used from EBay) which worked well. I needed an additional medium format unit, and the 1280 seemed the logical choice. I occasionally do photos for our sales group, and while it does indeed use a lot of ink, I found Concord Supply to fill this need at an affordable price.
I've gone through 2 expensive HP's in the medium format style, and they don't hold a candle to the reliability and performance of the Epson Stylus Photo 1280. Never again will I buy an HP Inkjet.
It worked right out of the box, and hasn't failed me yet.

Summary: buy the 2200, you will save with ink costs
Comment: I bought this printer 2.5 years ago and wish that I bought the 2200 at that time. As a graphic design student, I print a lot with this printer and find myself using $60-100 a week of ink that I buy at a discounted price. My classmates that have the 2200 report that they typically spend about $20 to $30 a week on ink (as they come with separate cartridges for each color), their print quality is better, and the 2200 seems to break down less. My printer is now broken and not under warranty and the repairs cost me $167.00. Most of the people that I know that have the 1280 have had to repair or replace it within the last 2 years. If you expect to be printing a lot, my advice is to spend the extra cash on the 2200 and you will make it back with the savings on the ink. Another piece of advice is to buy it at costco. If I bought it there 2 years ago, I could get a brand new one today, no questions asked.

Summary: Great buy!
Comment: I LOVE this printer! The fact that I can have a color managed workflow with this printer makes it easier to get great prints the first time. You'd have to let the prints dry at least 15-25 mins before you get to see the final output.
I highly recommend this printer for any serious photography work.

Summary: it's worth the invest ment
Comment: As a dedicated Epson user I am still amazed with the 1280. For the last few years the Epson 2200 had been my pride and joy but a few months ago I found a 1280 trashed on the side walk in Hollywood California and I am truly glad I pick it up. With a little T.L.C. I managed to clean out the nozzles and get it running. Reading a few of the reviews on this website I learned that the 1280 is an ink slayer and did my research on another product called Mediastreet Niagara Plug-N-Play System. Niagara Plug-N-Play is a bulk dye based ink system that works grate if not better than the factory inks. As a wedding photographer I need to print hundreds of prints at a time and the Epson 1280 with the Niagara System has been my most reliable printer set up till this day. In fact I am setting up another 1280 with the Niagara system for another one of my PC.
Not: the 1280 will produce really nice prints at 11X17, and 13X19,
But the 2200,because of its seventh color, still has much more detail around shadowy arias, but unless you put a magnifying glass up to it I do not think you'll notice it.
