Summary: home photo studio to go
Comment: for the price, the picture mate can't be beat. the quality is as good as they say it is, and it's pretty darn portable, not much larger than a football.

but a few things keep it from being a 5-star: epson makes you pay extra for the carrying case (some hp models are bundled with cases) and the battery (which is a must); the included "film factory" software is clunky, slow, and error-prone (hey epson, got an updated version?). if you want to print multiple photos at once, if you move one up to get a little bit more clearance, you move them all (this printer has a tendancy to crop top and bottom edges due to the one-size print format, so if you like to crop and resize in nikon picture project or other software, you might find this frustrating); jerky printing mechanism can sometimes etch lines across your otherwise impeccable pics; using a d80, hi-contrast shots w/ dark space eat up a lotta ink -- to get 100+ shots as claimed on a high-megapixel camera, you would probably need to shoot primarily outdoors in bright sunlight or under optimal indoor lighting conditions; and you have to make sure the slider in the back where you insert the paper is tucked tightly into your photos, otherwise your "borderless" pics might have unseemly borders and have to be redone.

on the plus side, you can easily print directly from the memory card or from the camera (well, the d80, anyway) -- no computer required. and the ink is not only high-quality, but fairly cheap -- $22 w/ 100 sheets of glossy paper on amazon, yeah! and like i said at the top, it's portable, baby! take it to your next party, poker game, or family gathering and watch the smiles go around. the instant gratification is great, and if you can't wait 30 seconds for a pic to emerge, you've probably got a severe case of ADD.

bottom line: if this could do larger sizes it would be a five, hands-down, but for under $100, you can't complain too much about the beautiful 4x6es. Price + Quality = happy consumer.

Summary: Can NOT read 2GB SD cards
Comment: I don't know how the printer works because I could never print a picture. It wouldn't read my card, and when I called Epson (on my own dime as the number they give for tech support is not toll free) I was first told the printer was out of warranty (after having it in my possession for about 15 minutes) was then put on hold and was finally told it couldn't read 2 GB cards. This while I am looking at a sticker on the printer that says, "Any camera, any card." When I asked about this the tech guy could only repeat that it couldn't read my card. I am sending it back. Hopefully Amazon will make this a smooth transaction.

Hey, this printer may be great. It sounds great based on the other reviews, but if you have or plan to get a 2 GB card stay away.

Summary: High Quality Photos + Cool Features
Comment: Setup this printer within 30 minutes to:
1) connect to wife's laptop & my laptop PC directly (and use the photo editing software)
2) connect directly to camera (to select photo from camera viewer, and edit on the printer screen). Interesting effects available, built into the printer: about qty(15) Disney borders (and many other styles of borders) - looks very professional to have a Mickey/Minnie Mouse border (with high quality graphics) framing a photo of my son at Disneyland. Very cool.
3) Read separate Memory Cards (SD, XD, CF, etc.) and get the same features & effects described above.

A versatile machine with above-average print quality. An excellent machine.

Summary: The best home printer I have tried but some professional printing is still better
Comment: This printer is flat out for the money the best little printer you can buy. In a side by side comparison to snapfish I would say that snapfish produces a slightly sharper image than is made with this printer, however it blows the doors off wal-mart or costco prints.

You also can't beat how easy it is to use this printer.

Summary: I love it!
Comment: This printer has been a joy to own. The prints are just great and look like the 35mm film I used to shoot. When other family members saw the pictures I printed at our last holiday gathering, they wanted to buy one of their own.
Time will tell how well it holds up, but I also purchased the padded travel case so I'm hoping for a long life.
