Summary: Lenovo won't boot-up with DUB-H7 connected
Comment: After installing the DUB-H7 USB hub I found my computer will not boot up. Once the computer is running I can plug in the USB cable from my computer into the H7 and all works fine. When the computer is turned off it will not boot until the DUB-H7 is disconnected again! I looked in D-Link's on-line support `knowledge base' and read the following:
Computer Won't Startup With the power adapter always on, when the PC is shut down and then restarted, some motherboards will not boot up.
---------
Reasons: The USB 5V is being feedback, sinking to the motherboard.
Symptoms: Some motherboards will exhibit power LED staying on or HDD LED staying on. With 5Vs feeding back into the computer from the USB hub, the power good signal on the motherboard is always on. In some motherboard designs, a power good signal is delayed , so the motherboards will not boot up until the USB cable or power cable is removed from the hub. Some motherboards do not have this issue because the USB port has diode protection.
Fix: To fix the problem you will have to remove the power supply along with the USB cable and restart your computer. Once restarted you can then plug everything back in.
---------
After reading this I knew I was in trouble but decided to e-mail the D-Link tech support detailing my problem. I told them that I have a fairly new Lenovo computer and am running Windows Vista Ultimate on it. Two days later I got the following response:

Dear Paul,
We appreciate your writing to us.
There are no such known issue with the product. This could be the issue with the
system you are using and to verify if yes or no, please connect the same product
to a different computer and then check if the device is letting your other
computer boot.
Still for any added clarifications, feel free to write back to us depending on
the results you get.
Should you require further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to
this message, or call toll free at 877-453-5465.
Thank you for networking with D-Link.

Now I ask you, does what I have presented here make any sense to you? In one breath D-Link explains a `fix' (more like an inconvenient work-around) for the known problem and in the next breath they say "...there is no such known issue with the product..." Let me tell you folks, there is a known issue/problem with this product. What do you think of this company now? They got their money and I'm on my own.
No wonder this economy is going down the drain. Nobody takes any pride in what they do or produce. It's just "show me the money" and that's the bottom line.

Summary: Working Perfectly After A Year!
Comment: I've had this hub for about a year now and have put heavy use on it. There hasn't been a hiccup with it at all.
I run multiple external hard drives (500 gig each) through it, a card reader, wireless mouse, a printer, an all-in-one scanner/printer/copier, internet modem, and it has handled them all with no problems whatsoever. So I can only advise on my personal experiences with the device. It doesn't even get warm.
The "new" slimline power supply is nice, but it is marked as 120v, not 240v. So for those going overseas, you will need another device to use this.
I'm getting ready to buy another one of these so as far as I'm concerned, it's the perfect little hub. Later this year, when I convert the house to Cat5 ethernet, I'll be looking at the D-Link switch based on my very positive experience with this hub and the D-Link wireless router that I also have.
