Comment: I dropped my teleconverter lens on a hike coming down from Mt. Dana. It bounced several times on the slate rocks. I thought it was a gonner, but on picking it up I found only a couple tiny nicks in the front lens, which haven't since affected my pictures. Being plastic I think saved it. I hadn't turned and snapped it in place. I'm often taking it off to use the other lens for landscape shots. It, and the S3, have really opened up the possible pictures to take here in Yosemite, where I work. I go out everday with it. The wildlife is shy and illusive, you have to be quick, and I miss a lot of shots due to my own clumsiness!, but it's a great camera set up to take critter pics, and one should add a good tripod with a removable head. The S3 has such a variety of settings, that for sure one of them will get the good pic. It's a challenge, to take bird pics in amongst the branches, or a dragongfly flying above the Merced, which I was trying today, but a lot of fun!

Summary: Recommend highly
Comment: Being able to get more pictures from a distance is great. Being able to capture object detail just makes picture taking more fun. I am only an amateur photographer taking pictures for fun, but I like having the abiltiy to take close up pictures that were unattainable from a standard lens.

Summary: Great! If you keep your expectations reasonable...
Comment: I bought this for my S3. First things first - don't expect massive magnification, as it is only a 1.5x. That being said, I love the friggin thing. My telephoto needs are not that great - I just wanted to be able to take better photos of wildlife in my back yard, or some great night sky shots. Don't expect to be able to frame an Egret from across a marsh or anything. It is made of a durable material (not metal, that would have probably made it too heavy). Ultimately, the S series are just beefed up point-and-shoot cameras, and this converter adds to that nicely.

It does add considerable bulk to the camera, but not so much that I can't carry it for extended periods with one hand. And I've actually found that it helps steady the camera a bit when taking handheld shots because you can support the lens in your left hand.

My only complaint (if it can be called such) is that the combination of camera and tele converter makes me yearn for a DSLR. Normally you can't add additional lenses to point-and-shoots because the permanent lens needs to be able to move when focusing. The S series gets around this with the lens adapter, which is just a high quality plastic tunnel that covers the lens, and the tele converter screws on the end of that. It fakes it. I'm kind of a camera snob, so this bothers me a teensy bit. If I had known last year what I know now, I would have held off on both camera and converter and just dished out the extra $100 to $150 for a Canon RebelXT or Nikon D40.

However:

I love my S3, and my next purchase will be the WC-DC58A wide angle converter.

Summary: A great addition for the canon S2 IS
Comment: I have used the Canon S2 IS since it came out and the 12 X optical was sufficient or so I thought. It is amazing how much better 18 is for bird and animal pictures. This has all the good qualities of a canon product but I am surprised that they did not tool the lens to allow filters to be attached.
