Summary: VERY NICE PRINTER
Comment: Very pleased with the printer. With the rebate I was able to upgrade to this printer from the 1500 for very little difference. Installation and set-up was easy.

Summary: Maintenance perspective
Comment: I am a certified technician for Canon (and other manufacturers) printers, and I can run down a few of the strong/weak points of this model. Overall, this is a good machine for occasional users, but doesn't deliver the best quality available. It's a good machine for what it is, and most breakdowns that I've seen are due to user error.
Pros:
-very fine (2pl) droplet size gives good resolution.
-separate ink tank and print head for lower-cost supplies.
-easy to use, simple interface.
Cons:
-four color system (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) doesn't give the true depth of image colors (look for 6 colors, with photo cyan and photo magenta, or 8 with photo red and photo green for better results)
-limited ppm output speed
-inks tend to dry if printer is left unattended for extended periods of time
How to keep your inkjet printer functional:
The top reason for printer failure (particularly microfine printers) is use of incorrect ink tanks. Do not use discount inks from other companies, they aren't formulated for the very small droplet size of this printer. Don't use ink refill kits, either. The printhead is not usually replaced with ink cartridges, and can easily be clogged by substandard inks. Also, make sure you print something at least once a week to keep the inks fresh. You can print just a nozzle check (press and hold the rest button until the green light blinks for the second time) to refresh the cartridge with a minimum of expended ink.

Summary: Love Canon Products, But not this one.
Comment: I love canon products and I own a scanner, two printers a digital camera. Ok here's the problem with this printer. First of all it messed up after i replaced the ink cartriges for the third time. Now everything prints with a yellow tint. I cleaned the print head and deep cleaned umpteen times no luck. The other problem is it really uses up the ink. It has 3 color tanks that are said to last longer, but once one goes the other two are right behind them. My recomendation is the canon Ip 1500 it prints pictures as good as the ip3000. The nice thing one black and one color cartridge that you can get on the web for less then ten bucks for both. Also they are very easy to refill. I can not see the difference between print quality with the ip3000 and the ip15000. Canon does make great products and has
excellent customer service. I do alot of printing and tried hp, epson, lexmark but Canon is the best and has the cheapest cartrides.

Summary: Fantastic print quality
Comment: I wasn't aware that Canon even made bubblejet printers any longer until I was researching a new printer for my computer. I was in desperate need of replacing a defunct Epson 740i, when I happened upon the PIXMA iP3000. I have been continually impressed with this printer's ability to print clean text documents and quickly spit out accurately color-matched photos. The price is unbeatable for the quality of the machine. In addition, the printer folds up into an inobtrusive little gray box when it's not in use, and looks at home on any desk. It has worked flawlessly with my Apple, which is running Macintosh OS 10.3. The various ports make it accessible to print from other sources (digital camera, etc.). I paid considerably more for my old Epson, but I have never been as satisfied with a printer before I purchased this one, which is a considerable value.

Summary: Very Poor Photo quaity on Photo Paper
Comment: I upgraded from i860 to IP3000 rcently. I was glad to see its speed when printed B/W paper. After couple of days when i printed the photo. It was fast as compare to i860 but the quality was very poor. It is completly waste to put money in it for photo printer. Canon has degraded the quality here to boost the sale of ip4000 and ip5000 printers.
Printer design seems good, B/W Printing quality and speed are good.
I give 0 (1) star because its name is photo printer and it is not good in phto printing.
