Summary: Refurbished worked great
Comment: I freaked when I received one of the refurbished cartridge from one of the vendors in the used and new vendor section. It was quite different looking from the original, but it fit just fine, the print quality is great, and it was half the price of the new one. The cartridge my Brother HL 50250DN printer came with lasted over a year (with my wife being a writer!) and this high capacity cartridge is supposed to have twice the capacity. 1/2 cent per page!
BTW the Brother HL 50250DN is a great duplex printer and i can even feed card stock through it with no problems.

Comment: In the lab where I work printers are under heavy load from multiple users, and Brother HL-5250DN is the best of all printers we had so far. Toner cartridges need to be replaced often. I believe that a genuine toner cartridge from the printer manufacturer is always better and safer for the printer than it's cheap substitute made by who knows which company. This is why I always buy GENUINE BROTHER TN580 cartridges. I never had problems with them.

Comment: I purchased a generic toner cartridge for my Brother printer. It did not fit properly, and the printer made some grinding noises. Play it safe and buy the real brand-name cartridge. It will cost you LESS in the long run.

Comment: Worth the few additional bucks this manufacturer's cartridge costs - over the 'aftermarket' refills. The quality is better; we'll find out if it will last (print) as many pages as advertised.

Comment: I have used after market cartridges at half the price, I have refiled toner in cartridges and tried to make them work, but on both counts have been disappointed, the quality of the print was bad after that. I am not sure if Brother is different but Original cartridges seem to work the best and the print quality is as original.
I will have to stick to original, despite the slightly higher cost.
