Summary: Don't buy this machine
Comment: The first machine we ordered left marks on the left side of the paper when printing or copying. We cleaned the drum as the owner's manual suggested, put in a new toner cartridge, and the problem persisted. We thought we had just gotten a machine with a damaged drum. We sent it back and received a replacement of the exact same machine--it still had the same problems!
Also this machine is very difficult to feed letterhead into the front slot--it doesn't always pull the paper through straight. The scan function did not pull the saved email addresses from Outlook for use when sending scans--it only pulled the old email addresses from Outlook Express that the user no longer used. I tried to find a way to upgrade the software or something using the manual and Brother web site. I could not resolve the issue.
The employee attempting to use this machine at her desk was very frustrated with it in a very short time. We are returning this machine and have already purchased an HP replacement that works much better and has been a breeze to set up and use so far.

Summary: Works great w/ a network of Macs & PCs
Comment: This is the tough little brother of the 8860DN. I really don't think you can go wrong with this printer. Works as advertised and works great in a mixed Windows and OS X network.

Summary: Fast copier, but not a fast printer.
Comment: It copies documents really quick, but takes forever to print. If you print a lot, you might want to consider something else.

Summary: I really wanted this one to work!!!
Comment: Five weeks into owning the Brother MFC-7820N, it started reducing all of my work by 40% and printing a large black margin down the side of EVERYTHING! Brother Customer Support said that "it isn't supposed to do that after just 5 weeks," which makes me wonder, when IS it supposed to do that? They are sending out a replacement printer in two to three days. To be continued...

Summary: Mostly a great machine, with one objection to scanning results.
Comment: Overall I'm extremely happy with this product. I've had it for years, printed thousands of pages on it, and it's been almost trouble free. My complaint is that when I scan pages using the automatic document feeder, the images appear at a slight tilt about half the time. The machine just will not draw them across the scanner at a perfectly straight angle. The PaperPort software that came with the unit is good, and it permits me to straighten out the image after I've scanned it. However, I scan a lot and this procedure can become very tedious. Speaking with Brother technical support did not get me anywhere. I was basically told to live with the problem.
