Summary: Don't buy this product
Comment: This product does not work properly. Unsupervised, the sheet feeder will almost always cause a paper jam.

After four and a half months of light use, a message appeared saying "Back cover open", even though the back cover is closed. Because of this error message, the machine doesn't work any more. I am attempting to find a replacement.

The machine works well otherwise, but there are many other printers that are far more efficient and reliable. Don't let favourable reviews fool you. There are basic design faults on this machine.

Summary: A real decent all in one unit.
Comment: Pretty much out of the box and ready to use, there are a few protocls to set on the fax function, the directions are completely user friendly. the self feed is great, also with front feed for various SF-xx (standard form). This machine comes loaded to copy 1500 sheets. If you sell on one of the sites, printing labels should be no problem. You can fax electronically via the printer or with included software for email. I thought the $300/free shipping with Amazon.com was the best deal I could find. Lastly, I've always had problems with scanners, I had to play with this a bit, resolutions, picture size and such can be figured out fairly easily, and changed quickly.

Summary: The best All-In-One I have owned
Comment: I used to be an HP fan but now I am a Brother. It pumps out your print jobs, faxes great, copies fine, and I haven't replaced the cartridge it came with. We have put 3 or so reams of paper in there now. I bought it because of all the ink we were buying printing mostly black/white. The software is great. I have installed it on my Windows XP computers and Vista and have no problems. I use it as a network printer and it scans fine to each computer. We have used just about every feature and have had no problems. I have had the machine for over 6 months and have used it daily. I would recommend this to any small office or person looking for a dependable, easy to use all in one.

Summary: Great MFC all-round
Comment: I'll second many of the reviews on this thread. Overall, it's the best functionality out there for price. Great print quality. Superior network-based scanning capabilities including the PaperPort software it comes with. The only real negative is the printer feels really flimsy and plasticky - the paper tray and open-up drawers. Feels like it's going to break some day (but hasn't yet).

For those who run into troubles reaching their 7820N when it's IP address changes... I ran into a problem with my 7820N today which other people may hit so I figured I'd post it here where there's tons of other good 7820N info. I just installed a new router with DHCP server that uses a different IP address range than the old router I replaced. This of course caused my Brother 7820N IP address to change. The strange thing is not only did the IP address change, but the Brother 7820N factory node name (which is advertised into WINS I believe, allowing all 4 of my Windows XP PCs reach it via node name) also changed as the Brother took on an new IP address. It changed from "BRN_046922" (this is my Brother-generated unique factory node name...yours will likely differ) to "dhcppc3". Not sure where this new "dhcppc3" name came from...potentially assigned by my new router. But with all 4 PCs already thinking my Brother printer and scanner and fax server were "BRN_046922", you can imagine the pain of manually having to reconfigure every print, scan, and fax driver in 4 PCs. I found instead I could just reset the node name on the 7820N itself to fix the problem. I logged into 7820N Web interface using it's new raw IP address, looked at Network Configuration main pane, clicked on "Node Name", changed "dhcppc3" to "BRN_046922" and pressed submit. That's it. Now the printer is again visible to Brother's status monitor program and reachable again via the printer driver, the PaperPort scan driver, etc.

Took me a couple hours to figure out what went wrong. Hope this saves someone else some debugging time...

-Andy

Summary: Great all in one!
Comment: This is a really great all in one unit at a great price. Also, the cost for toner is modest for a printer of this class.

PROS:
*Speed - really fast at everything and warm up time is only a few seconds from sleep mode and nearly nothing from stand by.
*Print quality - it looks great even on toner saving settings, images come out with good gray scale, very nice overall
*Physical size - the unit is very small; much smaller than it looks in photos

CONS:
*You can only set the ringer delay for the Fax auto answer from 0-4 rings and you can't turn it off. This can present issues if you want to have it hooked up to your home line but not have it auto answer.
*The full driver package is massive at over 150MB and you can't get the PC scanning or fax to work without it; though you can print with a much smaller driver.
