Comment: One of my friend bought this printer and still using now over 6 months without any problem. Now I also bought this same printer. It is excellent for the price and printing quality.
I cannot understand why some people pay low price for this excellent value for money product and complaining about the speed. Well.. for that price you cannot expect a lightning fast printing speed. It is a reasonably fast enough unless you are in a very busy office environment. I used Brother Products even before and I was very satisfied. Spare parts, support and refilling are widely available. Unlike some other brand cartridges, they are not sky high price.
Brother is a well made Japanese brand and it never let me down before. Exaggerated negative comments keeps people away from this great value for money product. What I bet is go and see for your self it is working demonstration in one of the stores and compare with other products. And don't forget check the prices of the new cartridges and after sale support too.

Summary: WARNING: NEVER EVER BUY A BROTHER BRAND!
Comment: IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BUYING A PRINTER, BUY ANY BRAND BUT BROTHER! I BOUGHT THIS SUCKER OF A PRINTER ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO HOPING THAT I WILL SAVE MONEY BECAUSE OF ITS FEATURES. BOY, WAS I WRONG! THIS PRODUCT PROVED TO BE THE WORST TO EVER HIT THE MARKET. IT IS SLOWER THAN A TIRED TURTLE, IT WILL NOT WORK IF ANY ONE OF THE INK TANKS IS EMPTY [EVEN IF IT'S NOT FULLY EMPTY], AND IT SHOWS SOME WEIRD WARNINGS. IF YOU NEEDED TO PRINT RIGHT AWAY, YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK; THIS MACHINE TENDS TO TAKE ITS TIME AND YOU MUST HAVE THE PATIENCE OF A POPE, ELSE YOU CAN JUST SMASH IT. NO WONDER IT WAS SOLD AT ROCK-BOTTOM PRICE, IT'S A PIECE OF CRAP! BROTHER THINKS THAT BY SELLING THIS GARBAGE AT A VERY LOW PRICE WITH ALL THE FEATURES, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CON THE BUYERS ONCE ITS INK REPLACEMENT TIME. INKS ARE EXPENSIVE AND DEPLETE LIKE CRAZY. Summary: This is the second product like it.
Comment: Previously, I owned the Brother MFC unit that did not have fax and loved it so when this unit went on sale I grabbed it. All aspects work as expected which is great. The software tends to load a lot of stuff not needed (for us) so I removed the automatic loading functions from msconfig and simply call the printer or scanner as required. The adf feature (automatic doc feed) feature is a real time saver. Software is excellent too. No, I don't work for the company. It's just nice, for a change, to get a product that actually works. And if you need to call Brother, a human located in the USA actually answers the phone. Imagine that!

Comment: Disappointed----had trouble getting fax to work---poor customer & manual instructions---Brother replaced original new model with a refurbished one---still can't get fax to work. Slow time for command box to come up---poor availability of LC51 cartridges , OEM or compatibles.Copy works good, haven't tried scanner

Comment: AFTER you buy it, the documentation reveals that you can NOT receive faxes. And the outgoing faxmodem is only 14.4. Why would they do that? Bait & switch! Brother wants you to move up the next model. Too late.
The software does not log the faxes you sent.
Someone wrote you cannot scan multiple documents into one .pdf. I had no problem with that. Best feature is scanning multiple documents into a .pdf and attaching to your default email. They do not use an Outlook dialogue box like most programs, they just pop a ready-to-go email on your desktop. Nice.
Regular printing takes forever to start.
