Summary: Love this wireless color laser printer.
Comment: After considering various options and reviews I decided the 4070cdw was the printer I needed for my home office. I write and design flyers, brochures, bulletins, class outlines and outlines for public speaking. The printer needed to have color and still be good at printing text. It also needed to have duplexing capabilities for printing class materials, It had to be a laser printer for cost and speed considerations. The wireless interface was just an added bonus; but I have come to depend on it. This printer met each of these needs and in use has proved to be better than needed. In this price range this is a five star printer.
My computer of choice is an iMac. And I had no problems setting it up although I do think the documentation could be better on the Mac OS side. But setting things up on a Mac has always been easier than a generic PC. Connecting over wireless to the printer was a breeze. This is a very good small office color laser printer.

Summary: With Brothers like this, who needs enemies? Be happy-buy Xerox.
Comment: If you are looking for a printer with the temperament and demands of an A-List Hollywood monster, look no further. Since nothing is all bad, I'll pay this machine the compliment that it never really jammed. That's the only nice thing I can muster about this $500 piece of trash, made worse by the most condescending customer service personnel ever to wear a headset.
I'll start at the end, because that's probably most helpful: I ended up tossing this thing after a malfunction (for which I'm also to blame), and it was the best thing that happened to me. I needed the printer repaired, and the place Brother referred me to was honest and very helpful....know what they told me? "Don't bother having that thing fixed. Brother printers are notoriously expensive to repair and for the money you'll spend, you can buy a new printer that won't give you half the trouble. Buy a Xerox printer." THE PEOPLE WHO BROTHER REFERS told me this. And thank god.
A hard lesson learned, but everything happens for a reason-tossing the Brother in the trash will actually save me money. Yes, my $500, 9 month old printer heading to the garbage was a blessing in disguise.
I bought a Xerox as the repair people recommended, and I found out what laser prints SHOULD look like. I haven't had the first issue, and the print quality is 500% better (I will no longer have to have my fliers professionally printed, because the print quality is that much improved.)
Even before it burned up, Brother was a mediocre product with maybe the worst customer service I've ever encountered. EVER. Since this was my first laser printer, I assumed that the struggles I had were just part of a higher end machine. From spilling toner to poor print, getting this thing to work properly was a major undertaking. I understand that all machines have a kind of paper they'll do better with, but are you kidding me? If a lighter weight paper was being used, the thing started dumping toner. So after performing repairman-like duties, and realizing how touchy this thing was, it was....ok...it was like the Courtney Love of printers. The print quality was uneven. Most adobe documents' quality would be considered unfortunate at best. When I had problems and tried to get help from customer service, their assistance was straight out of the manual, complete with some belittling and scolding, and then onto a repair shop.
I will never, EVER buy another Brother product again, and I strongly suggest, even after reading all these reviews, that you call or go see someone who fixes these things...who knows better what machines are worthless? It's where I'll get my advice from now on!

Summary: Printer
Comment: For the price, the Brother HL 4070 is a great printer. I use it at home for personal and school work. Noise level is acceptable for a laser printer. It does curl the pages a bit, but that is not a problem for me. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend over 500.00 on a laser printer. Great speed and color.

Summary: What a Bargain !
Comment: This printer is a much better alternative than a similar HP. I've owned for about 5 mos. now. Some have complained about things (color boldness, etc.) that can be easily tweaked in the setup default settings. The install couldn't be easier; software finds the printer on your network. The web interface is super as well. The paper curl is not a problem; my pages straighten out?! Try another brand of paper and make sure pages are dry. (I've used Staples recycled, Office Depot multipurpose, laser photo, and others.) Maybe those with trouble are using cheap 16 lb paper. Duplexer is super. Day after day, it does its job. Comes with full cartridges. Before buying a color laser, check supply costs. DO plan on snapping in an extra laptop memory chip.

Summary: Homeschool Mom in Love!
Comment: This is the 1st printer I have bought in a VERY long time. I wanted color, duplex and wireless networking. This one has it all - took 5 minutes to get set up and runs wonderfully. I print out a lot of stuff for my kids because they are homeschooled and this printer allows me (without additional software) to print booklets as well as standard size duplex. So I end up saving a TON of paper in the long run. Highly recommended.
