Summary: Serves its intended purpose
Comment: I bought the Antec MX-1 along with a Western Digital 500GB HD to expand the capacity of my DVR box. I had the drive installed, up and running, in less than 10 minutes. Remove a couple of screws, install the HD, connect the cables, and it was done. My DVR immediately recognized the drive, and asked me to format it. A minute later, done. I had originally given the MX-1 a 5 star review, but I had to knock a star off because its fan is no longer silent. The MX-1 is fairly quiet, but I notice that the fan seems to be getting a little louder every day. I may consider disabling it. My MX-1 also came with 2 eSATA cables. I was only expecting one, so I don't know if that was a mistake. Some enclosures don't even give you a cable. All in all, I'm satisfied.

Summary: This is no cheap enclosure!
Comment: I've got quite a few enclosures and I must say this is by far the best so far. It does not feel "cheap" and it is not "cheap" (worth the $40 on Amazon I must say). Only owned it for about a couple of weeks. One can tell right away that it is well designed and well thought out in all the small details. Just the way it is cooled is innovative and effective (fan creates recirculating with hot air being blown out from a semi-hidden grid in the back panel -- maybe from the fron as well, can't reember)
One reviewer was dissatisfied with it, mentioning a loud fan... he must have had a faulty one, since my fan is by far the quietest I've had. Almost cannot hear it running. Led is in the front, where you would expect it to be, cables in the back. Power cable could be better, but definitely is not coming loose.
It is true that it takes a while to unscrew all the screws and screw them back (a couple of them are very tricky to put back if you do not have a magnetized screw driver), but by doing that one also notices how nicely the hard drive is protected and kept in place in the enclosure.
I tried many other "cheap" enclosures (with leds in the back, power in the front, cables loose, HD not secured, terrible design, bad look, made of plastic, not cooling, with either USB or SATA, loud etc.) and I always wondered: "Why does it take so much just to make an enclosure right and simple?"
This enclosure pretty much "checked off" all of my requirements. That's why my 5 stars.
P.S. as a small minus, the black color and the finish seem to attract dust a little

Summary: Excellent Product
Comment: I use this enclosure to backup important data and to temporarily store files during cleanup of my system. Data transfer time is very good. The only complaint I would have is that the cooling fan runs all the time the device is powered on. I would like it to stop when the device is turned off per system power scheme.

Summary: ONE STAR,Need an enclosure for that extra HD?This MIGHT be your answer.
Comment: Hello,This unit is the first of it's kind for me. Looks kinda sinister and has some weight to it. Three cables were included. One was power that had the round serial connector that fit nice and tight in the units plug. One e-sata cable w/slot plug for the back of the tower, nice touch. One USB cable. Everything fit and is secure in the unit.I don't have a clue to the quality of the units chip set. For the money it's a good buy. That being said the unit has to be controlled manually e.g. reach to it's backside to the power switch. In my book that's a deal killer. Still you'll be glad to reach for the switch. The fan is to small and the tone it makes all alone in the room is driving me mad.I'll update when I get test numbers on the O/I speed. For the money, usefulness, and material used in the build,I like it.UPDATE It's a piece of junk. I'm returning it due to the fact it doesn't work anymore. oh well Side note...I think all Antec products are junk

Summary: Perfect for the job!
Comment: I just bought two of these to use for whole system Backup. I had tried four other brands and the drives ALWAYS ran way too hot!
I'm using Maxtor 6H500F0's which are 500 Gigabyte. A big benefit of this enclosure is that the drive enters standby - spins down - when idle which saves wear and tear. The other enclosures I tried did not allow the drive to do this.
Most modern drives can spin down when idle, so look for this feature when buying drives. Also, the enclosure runs cool. This drive ran at 53 degrees C in another top brand of enclosure, It runs at 40 degrees C under the exact same circumstances.
The MX-1 sits flat on the desk and you can stack them one of top of the other. Or you can stand them on edge using the base provided. They are thicker than the competition because of the built in cooling fan. But the difference is only about half an inch.
The quality is excellent and I have nothing negative to say at all! I will be buying more!
