Comment: I am an advanced photo-manipulator and at age 11. It's tough to learn, but once you have, you can really exel. Some people are shocked when they discover that I only use Elements, and not a fancy version of Photoshop. I use this program EXACTLY, not even Version 4.0 or 3.0, and I can not explain how wonderful it is. Photoshop Elements is a great product for anyone wishing to begin a new hobby or start one, and to tell you the truth, I can't do a THING with Paint Shop Pro.

Summary: Pretty decent Photoshop
Comment: For those of you who may just want to use Photoshop for fun or maybe want the bare bones of what you need, then this is probably the software for you. Ironically, the "Elements" and "Essentials" versions of software are known as the "bare bones" versions, so that pretty much tells you what you're getting into here.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 came with my wacom tablet, along with Painter Essentials 2. (which isn't as good as the original series, I'm sorry to say) This was a very refreshing version, as I had Photoshop 7 that had gone buggy on me and some functions (like opening up GIF or TGA files) I had come to rely on third party software for. With Elements 2.0 I didn't have to worry about that - Elements served all of Photoshop's jobs and then some. Layers, custom brushes, smudges, gradients, filters channels...it's still here.
My only gripe with elements is there is no quick mask tool. Granted, you have the paintbrush selection, and for some this might serve them just as good, but I always using the mask tool for what I do. In fact, the only reason I still have the old Photoshop on my computer is for this purpose.
If you're a more serious graphic designer, you should probably look into Photoshop CS 2 which blows any of the previous versions of Photoshop out of the water. If not, then this is a pretty decent (and affordable) replacement.

Comment: Elements is a program that is packed with many of the same features as the more expensive full version Adobe Photoshop. The features that it doesn't have, like duotones, channel palette and Quickmask, can be worked around with an extra step or two. It is a terrific value.
That said, the learning curve for those new to the world of Adobe, can be pretty steep. I should know - I use it to teach a digital scrapbooking class at an Educational Center in California (yes - a FREE course). For those of you who have not used Adobe Products before, there is 3 to 5 ways to do just about everything - this can be confusing for beginners. Besides a menu bar with drop down windows, there is a toolbar, a tool editor, as well as palettes that dock and separate from the main menu bar. The Layer Palette (A wonderful and useful thing) seems to be particulary hard for beginners to understand.
My suggestion is, if you are just starting to use Adobe product, find a school and take a course BEFORE your purchase. Most of my student do end up buying the software, or a scanner that includes it, by the end of the semester.

Summary: A must buy
Comment: I have worked with Photoshop for years now but I have never came accross anything as easy to use as Photoshop Elements. I can't think of anything better and more easier to use for created professional results. Really very good product!

Comment: Is Bill Gates running Adobe now? I have used and recommended the earlier versions. They were great! There are bugs all through this release. Steal an earlier version. This one isn't worth buying.
